Social groups.

I was having a nose round the social groups last night and there is a distinct lack of activity. One is even up for sale! Also not very many have been created, I think half a dozen that all came in to being during the initial flurry after admin added the feature.

Now I don't think this is due to the economic downturn, I just think people have forgotten they are there.

So do you run a social group or do you belong to one? Tell us what it is all about.

I run The Rotten Roll Lobby. It is my blog, I had intended to get around to transferring entries from another blog but just haven't had time or opportunity. Membership is open to all but because it is a moderated group you will need to ask me to join if you want to contribute.

I'm also a member of RLA65s Hottie Club.

Just to clarify here, vBulletin added the social group feature as well as the newly enhanced profile system (friend's list etc.), not the admin.
If you go to other forums on the net that are using vBulletin, you will notice that they have most of the same features as RB.

It's not about the lack of activity. I just don't see the point when noone here is really interested in the theme of the group.
Plus, my activities outside of the movie sections have been generally low lately, so it's hard to establish a foundation that is active all the time.
That's my excuse.

Anyway, Cafe Loquace is still up for sale (free) for anyone who wants it.

Tell you what efgh, why don't you go start your own social group where you can put all the spam you like? Nobody will care because nobody will be there. I've even thought of a name for you but one of the mods will need to move this to the rowdy room first.

Well after all the furore in the movies are fucked thread I thought I'd take a leaf out of my own book and be a bit pro-active about stirring some new life into the social groups pot.

Also I thought it would be good if Dirtmcgirt could tell us all again about his movies group without it getting lost in pages of disagreement.

I personally think the groups are a good idea as it gives us a place to discuss stuff off board that may not interest all of the members.

Thanks Fucking Rotter for attracting the attention to my subject.

After the discussion about movie section being polluted by spam and malware I created the Group Approved Movie Uploads.

I want it to be a place where RB Users can find a huge amount of rape videos and don't have to worry about spam or malware.

It is an Invite-Only-Group so only selected users can post there. I have invited only respected members who have proven themselves in the movie section. And in the future only members will be invited who match these criteria.

I plan that each member of the group creates a thread (in the group it's called "discussion") like he/she has in the movie section. And in this thread we only add the posts with our uploads in it.

The place for feedback will still be the threads in the movie section.

If the participation is good there could be a sticky thread in the movie section linking to this thread and with place for comments.

At present the social groups are only accessible through visiting members profiles.

They are member created groups, that allow them powers of moderation and posting through membership. Go take a tour of some members profiles and see what there is out there. They've mostly been quiet after an initial flurry of activity, but I'm duty bound to inject some life in to them again if I can, but that's mostly because I'm an egotistical bastard with my own group!
