Of course the article fails to mention the fact that they did not ban rape porn last time round because they could find absolutely no evidence between fantasy rape and actual rape whatsoever.

You would think a key fact to establish in a (supposedly) democratic state.

Unfortunately in the UK they want to ban everything on the fringes, even if there is absolutely no proof of harm.

The idea of trying to censor the internet has been bandied around endlessly and it's generally a bunch of hot air.

They can make it illegal to OWN porn, but that just means you either watch it streaming online or you keep it on a hard drive or burn it to a DVD which can be disposed of without affecting your actual computer.

As for laws against sites like this, let them try. It won't take the hackers long to figure out a way around whatever attempt they make, especially in places like Australia where the people are not sheep and are willing to follow only the rules that suit them.

Those bastards have proven they're beyond the law, so your reasoning is flawed. Internet porn access in the palaces of Westminster is rife, despite such things being against their rules. Are you really stupid enough to believe that making something illegal will stop the political class that make the rules, from breaking them? Of course they won't.

New legislation will come. The politicians will continue to be exempted from following it.

The major problem is that you have a rare coming together of two normally exclusive groups, who both hate pron but for totally different reasons. On the one hand, you have the sex is for procreation, all women should cover up, lie back and think of England, anti-pleasure lobby, and on the other, you have the porn is degrading to women, and any man who likes porn is a rapist and any woman who likes porn is only liking it because she is a victim of paternalistic, misogynistic propaganda and needs to regain her womanhood, probably by not shaving and wearing a suit. Both are highly vocal, both beloved of, differing sections, of the media. Factor in a few families of the victims of high profile sex killings, who were killed by men who had, amongst other files, extreme rape and child porn, and you have a worrying time.

Though one of the government solutions, you can only search for porn if you have a registered account, cause that will discourage you if they have your name...hmm, I have about six Gmail accounts, including the one for here, one for my phone, and a few I use for Facebook roleplay characters, so that works.

The way they are blaming Google and the ISP’s, IMHO, is akin to blaming Polaroid for making the camera that took the shots, and the paper manufacturer that pic are printed on, let along Memorex for making the CD’s and DVD’s they are burned to. That might as well blame Microsoft for making the OS, or Lenovo for making the Laptop I am using to speak to you...

The other double standard I struggle with is how come it is OK to show in a film / tv graphical close up torture, violence, dismembering and murder in unbelievable detail but if a rape is depicted in anything but the most soft-core style it is in all the papers. And this extends to video games where it is OK to mutilate and kill with blood splattering all over the screen. Bet if someone featured a rape in a video game it would be banned overnight.

It doesn't even have to be rape to start the tut-tutting. A naked breast or a man's ass will send Church Lady into a fit of the vapors. A few years ago there was a video game that featured just the type of violence, blood and gore you describe. The Mothers Against Smut or whatever they call themselves went insane and ran in circles screaming because the female character's costume was too revealing.

Of course governments watch what people are doing, the US government more than most, using "the war on terror" as an excuse. This is part of the motivation, true, but if they collect information that shows someone who's a nuisance to the powers that be is into legal kinky sex, oh dear, how did that get leaked?

The argument that if you've done nothing illegal, you've nothing to fear, is often trotted out, but there can be few people in the world, other than babies, who haven't done something legal they wouldn't want the world to know about.
