I saw a local documentary on pedophilia. They interviewed an admitted pedophile, didn't block out his face or change his name or anything. He does not feel the least bit shameful of his activities, and even worse, blames his criminal records on overly-conservative laws which prevent children from exploring their sexuality.

Note: his words, not mine.

When asked if he feels bad about his crimes and victims, he actually said that it was what the children wanted, that they are naturally sexually curious, and that he should not be blamed as he was seduced by the children he was with.

The problem with the internet is not "rape boards" or "porn sites" it is chat rooms. Chat rooms that kids either enter and lie about their age or chat rooms that pedaphiles sneak into and pretend to be kids to lure their victims. I've seen a few editions of Dateline where they have run sting operations that net dozens of pedaphiles. EVERY FRIGGIN' TIME. The have actually occasionally caught the same guy more than once! And when it's all said and done they turn their data over to the cops and some of the guys do get busted but a lot get off.

Of course in the wake of Dan Rather's scandal last election, I have no doubt that a few of their "catches" are plants just to incite people but I still think that it is the chatrooms like Myspace that need to be censored.

These are the places that need to be shut down if any. And now the sites like myspace are letting kids put suggestive and naked pictures up on their sites. And you and I all know that once a picture is up on the internet it is there forever becasue people who see it will copy it and share it and somebody else will post it somewhere else. This is not a private playground.

Myspace and other similar sites are where we need to consider censorship because they are the haven to the kids who are to young and naive to realize that they are setting them selves up to be victims.

That may seem a little bit hokey but JMHO that parents should be more attentive to what their kids are doing. I have a MySpace account and the only people I chat with are family and a few celebs that I have as my friends; mostly sports players. Not that I'm against actual in the flesh pedophiles being caught and locked up but sites like that one are not too far away from being vigilante groups. Only a matter of time before some of them start taking the law into their own hands. And while not too many would shed a tear over a ped being castrated or killed, once they start with them then it's an even shorter step to lynching suspected killers or rapists... or shoplifters or jaywalkers... because once you start down that path there's no way to justify stopping.

I'm not worried that these groups will take the law into their own hands, I don't think that will happen, but I'm concerned that these groups will start attacking boards like this one trying to find "supposedly" real rapists. Hence possibly resulting in the board(s) being shut down. I'm not worried about pedos in our type of forums because there is no children here for them to get at. Also there is no pedo material for them to get at. So that is one reason why I was surprised at Innocents and Hunters reaction. As long as these groups stick within guidelines and catch real pedos then I don't have a problem with what they are doing. My problem will be if they start invading forums; such as this one; where children are obviously nowhere to be found and breach the rights of the board and its members.

I usally find a polite pm or email to those very few under 18s that venture onto the board usually does the trick. But one can never be sure of the age or gender of any of the members, after all there is no way of checking and its very easy to create an identity on the internet as the vigilantes mentioned above demonstrate. The moderaters rely on the other members to alert them, should they have suspicions about new members.

Aside from the whiny bastards over at yahoo who shut down their adult sites for the most of them, disclaimers have so far proved to be the legal safety for internet sites. Of course the ultra goody types will say that the site being here is reason enough to close it down but so far I think the internet is safe from being shut down.

What is at risk of course is having your web server checked to see where you have visited. America recently tried to randomly check google searches to try to track potential sex offenders. My opinion of going after quote potential criminals unquote is that it is too much like that movkie Minority Report.

The New York Times published a story on Pedophiles and the internet. It was quite revealing. They also said Congress is considering legislation to protect children on the internet. My fear here echos Sodoman's. What if the religious right goes after all sexual perversions on the internet? While this is a fantasy site, rape is a criminal act, and I'm not sure the religious right in congress is likely to make the distinction that I hope we all do.

As far as my personal opinion towards Pedophiles - they often leave their victims traumatized and forever in torment. They can destroy the potential for a happy productive life. It is a crime worse than murder in some cases. Many victims continue the cycle by becoming pedophiles themselves.

True pedos need to be locked away so they cannot harm anyone ever again.
