The Stars and Bars was originally the Battle Flag of the Northern Army of Virginia. It was not and never has been the "Battle Flag of the Confederacy".

Gen. John B. Hood's Texas Brigade used the Republic of Texas Flag and never carried the Stars and Bars. Texans as well as most other state armies fought for states rights and flying any flag other than their state flag and/or their own battle flag design would have been a betrayal of their core beliefs.

Now, the Stars and Bars and its history and meaning have been perverted to symbolize any form of resistance to established authority, government, or tradition.

I dare say that General Robert E. Lee would spin in his grave like a Dremel tool if he saw the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia being used by practically every motorcycle gang, lost rebellious psychopaths and every redneck with an IQ smaller than their waist size.

But, the victor does write the history.

Could it not be argued that the flag symbolises a tradition of resistance, rather than resistance to tradition? To me it certainly does. That there is the key, symbolism is a personal thing. To be told what a thing symbolises by someone else, then to have it banned, removed, banished, defaced, is an incredibly offensive thing to do.

After the recent shootings in Charleston, some idiot defaced the Confederate war memorial there with the words "Black Lives Matter". Regardless of the right or wrong of the Confederate cause, those were just ordinary soldiers. Surely those lives, and their memory, the feelings of their surviving descendents, matter just as much?

To have someone do this, and seemingly go unpunished, whilst any one with any genuine regard for the stars and bars as you call it, has to be punished for the act of one extremely misguided young man, is an insult and an injustice.

Sure, black lives matter, all lives matter. A knee jerk banning of a battle flag is only going to fuel resentment amongst those who believe, rightly or wrongly, that black lives seem to matter more.

I had a great, great grandfather, two great, great uncles, a great grandfather and a great uncle that fought with Hood’s Brigade. I have read what remains of their diaries and their letters home. None of them had ever seen a black person until they crossed the Mississippi River. To them, the war had nothing to do with slavery. Had they thought that, they wouldn’t have been there. They had never owned or ever intended to own slaves.That was true of the vast majority of the Confederates. As Texans, they simply wanted to raise their families, protect themselves from Mexican and/or Indian attacks and sell their cotton to the British without federal intervention and without constraints applied by federally backed monopolies that through legislation was trying to divert cotton from the British to the northern cotton mills and reduce the price per pound. Remember, that cotton was the 19th century equivalent of today’s oil. The northern monopolies and their purchased legislators desperately wanted to control the production and profits from cotton. The south's ability to sell cotton directly to Britain had to be stopped at any cost.

A number of the Union troops (but, certainly not the majority) felt that slavery was a part of their cause. If not so, why did Lincoln issue his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 at the beginning of the third year of the war and not at its onset? Why was Lincoln responsible for the formation of Liberia? Read the Lincoln Douglas debates and learn of the Great Emancipator’s views regarding the assimilation of Blacks into the American culture. If the war was really about slavery, explain the riots in New York in July of 1863 that were directed against the rich elite of the city and its black population.

During the civil war, the most popular song in the south was “Dixie”. In my youth, every major city in the south had at least one high school and one junior high school with “Rebels” as their mascot. “Dixie” was played at every sporting event by the school bands. Radio stations across the south would sign off their broadcasts each day by playing “Dixie”.

The day after the surrender of Lee to Grant, Lincoln addressed an audience regarding, among other issues, the song. He stated that “Dixie” was one of his favorite songs. He also stated that he had conferred with the attorney general and that they considered “Dixie” to be captured property. He asked the band to play “Dixie”.

During the Civil War, the second most popular song in the south and one of the most hated songs in the north was “the Bonnie Blue Flag”. That blue flag with a single white star was the actual national flag of the Confederacy.

The politically correct crowd doesn’t know or respect their history , so unlike “Dixie”, it’s still widely available. But, what do you expect from a group of misguided zealots that have no idea who Andrew Johnson or Jefferson Davis was, never heard of the Lincoln Douglas debates or for that matter can’t name the current vice president.

For shits and giggles read the lyrics of “The Bonnie Blue Flag” and find a mention of slavery.

The thing that strikes me as most ridiculous in this whole rush to get rid of the Confederate flag is that you won't be able to buy something as harmless as a model of the General Lee from the "Dukes of Hazzard" because Warner Brothers' licensing division ordered the production of toys and models of the General Lee with Confederate flag halted! You know, I am not from the South and have no connection to the Confederacy by ancestry and most of the ancestors (Save for the Native American ones and some from Michigan!) immigrated to the US after the Civil War, however, I'm suddenly having an urge to buy a bunch of Confederate flag merchandise and flags and pins just to fly in the face of the PC stupidity.

Somedude, that is similar to a ridiculous situation that existed in Germany. You may have heard of a British comedy called 'Allo, 'Allo? Set in Nazi occupied France, it was about the adventures of Rene, a cafe owner and his various attempts to balance helping the resistance against collaborating with German art thieves, whilst preventing himself, the resistance and the art thieves from falling foul of the local Gestapo officer, Herr Flick. He was also having affairs with all his waitresses, and in every episode would nearly get caught by his wife, Edith.

Any way, despite being shown on television across the world, the programme was never shown in Germany because it is illegal to display National Socialist symbols there, including uniforms.

Meanwhile, back in the real world. Apparently Barack Obama said "nigger" on television recently, and got shit for it. Yet if he'd said "niggah-uh-uh", he'd have sold millions of records and probably been elected for an unprecedented third term.

George Washington refused to run for a third presidential term. That set an unwritten precedent until Franklin D. Roosevelt served three terms and began his fourth term just prior to his death. The 22nd amendment to the US Constitution (passed in the 1950’s) limits the president’s time in office to two terms. The country realized that presidents are like diapers. They need to be changed frequently and for the same reason.

Please note that the Auto Trader television commercial which has an orange 1969 Dodge Charger, “the General Lee”, now has a photo shopped white or sun glared roof.

Freedom of expression, freedom of speech and the ability to display or show respect for one’s heritage is no longer available to Caucasian American citizens. And, it’s not about racism. It’s about power and control. Obama has pushed through blatantly unconstitutional socialistic legislation and orders. Relating to Obama, his Wikipedia page, as well as much of the media, refers to him as the first African American president. How diluted does ones African Americaness have to be before the liberal media describes you as mixed race, or simply human? I suppose though, if that were the case the media would have had a field day when George Washington was elected as the first human president of the USA, then nothing until the monkeys take over!

Even though the law varies from state to state, the most common definition of a Negro is a person that has 1/8th African blood. There is no federal definition. Strangely enough, there is a federal definition for American Indians. That definition requires an individual to have 1/4th native American blood.

As far has Obama’s lineage, it’s difficult to ascertain. The White House‘s birth certificate release indicates that Obama’s father was born in an African country that didn’t exist until 1963 (two years after Obama’s birth) Additionally, Obama was born in a hospital that didn’t exist until 1978. In Obama’s book about his father, he expresses pride that his father fought in WWII. The bogus birth certificate indicates that Obama’s father was 26 years old in 1961. That would have made him between 3 and 9 years old during WWII. We can only suppose that Obama’s father was a part of an elite juvenile special forces group.

Obama’s entire life has been a poorly constructed lie cleverly reinforced with the race card. Who knows the truth?
