okay look, I LOVE rb its my "home".

I know there are some issues here with the way the forums handled with regards to IP's from spammers not being banned and stuff, but this place I have LOVED for a couple of years now, its gone right downhill!! Is was once only a few little threads that got squashed straight away but now, instead of seeing a community of bright witty sex deviants, all the "new posts" contain alot of BS about viagra and fucking handbags and XP help, and not alot of much else. I wont name names, but a little birdy told me that there is a lack of care about this board higher up and I think thats a shame and I really hope its not true.

Ill say it again, I will throw my hand up if I can have the power to ban IPS, Ive set up and ran a forum before so I can work out how to ban morons that are fucking up the board with rubbish, or if not me, give the power to someone who WILL do it!!! I love RB and hate seeing it fall downhill like I think it has.

The Admin of this board has been asked on more than one occasion to give us the power to ban IPs. So far hes unwilling to do this.

Perhaps if the membership asked enough it might happen. Phantom,Somedude and other Mods have been asking long before I got on my soap box.

And for the record I agree with you, I got on this morning and cleaned up over 70 pieces of spam. Its getting worse not better. And it could be controlled easily by banning a few IP's.

The problem is going to be, god forbid there's one or two days no mod checks in. This place will be overrun with spam.

I am a Mod on 2 other boards, this is the only one where we do not have the power to clean up this mess properly.

However as long as I'm a Mod here I will continue to battle the spam with all the tools provided to me.

I just wanted you to know the Mods here will not give up or in to all the spam on here.

GG... you're right about there being way too much spam but the active mods spend a good chunk of their time fighting this so hats off to them. Most of the spam threads and comments last less than a day so ala in all I think the mods do a pretty fine job.

That said, would it be nice if they could Ban IP's? Sure, but they cant so...

Anyway, just my two pennies worth.

I Have been on a crusade so to speak lately to try and rid the movie section of new posters who are only posting the same russsian rape crap as fast as they can. After giving one of them some well-deserved neg rep this ass asked me to restore his rep yet in the same message mentioned he was doing quite well making money from hotfile. Hotfile Cash he called it. I looked it up and it seems hotfile will pay people for downloads.
Funny how once I discovered this I realized almost all the new posters posting russian rape are using hotfile for their host.
I'm quite disgusted with what has become of the movie section, except for a few great posters, and I'm concerned we're loosing it to jerks using it as a money making venue.

Yeah, to be honest, I lost count of the amount of times I logged on and spent more time posting in the spam thead then in the general forum.

The mods should be given the power to ban IP addresses, hell they should make a couple of the mods into admins like Phantom and Sierra on KO...

Difference is they run (own) KO. Admin here is the sole proprietor from what I understand. Theirs Admin, Somedude then all of us Mods. Thats the chain of command here. I doubt he would give us the ban IP power, though it would be nice.

This is one of the larger sites of this theme which makes it quite a target for spammers. It is a wonder that the Mods are able to do as well as they do considering they don't have the power to ban IP's. The spam here some days, in spite of the efforts of our Mods, has been enough to have me log on see the spam and log off a lot of times because of the odd hours I usually check this board.

Sadly there is also another side to this problem, they also cannot ban the IP's of people who do stuff like serious harassment of other members. I know of two examples. One regarding myself, where the person did comeback under another name. And another member who got stalked onto this board by someone she has a real life order of protection against and who threatened to post her real life info and pictures on here. The mods should have the power to ban IPs both for spam and because it keeps your female rape pervs coming back.

I have a feeling I'm going to be saying this till I'm blue in the face, but here it goes one more time! Banning IPs is completely ineffective because of two reasons...dynamic IPs and proxy IPs...I won't go into boring technical details but suffice it to say IP bans are easier to get around than a line drawn in the sand.

I have to admit that after doing some googling on the "ban ip" problem its not quiet as simple as it appears. There are too many ways around it.

But like I said earlier, they keep posting there crap we'll keep taking it down.

Oh right Somedude thats interesting. Thanks for that, Geno has made me a mod on a site she is in the process of setting up, so any info like that comes in handy...

I have had a go at banning some IP's on there, dunno if it works cause the settings are set for you to need approval to join.

I suppose its like everything, there will always be a work around....<sighs> bastards.

Somedude is right in one respect. Banning IPs will not stop spammers. NOTHING stops spammers.

However, with my utmost respect to Somedude, if you guys saw the number of times the SAME spammers try to knock on the SAME door you wouldn't call banning IPs completely ineffective. I can show you pages and pages in my error log of spammers once banned trying to get back in, most of them the same spammers who show up here (and at every board). Banning IPs may not stop them but anything that can be done to slow them down is worth it.

On the "other board", we made it through a concerted 3-day Denial of Service attack launched by people who knew what they were doing. We stayed open the whole time. How? Banning entire banks of IPs and a lot of help from our hosting provider.

Of all the boards in this community - KO, RD, FS, SV, RC (and many more I probably forgot to name), RB has the biggest problem with pernicious spam. Part of that is because it's one of the oldest and it used to be one of the biggest. The other part is because it is the only board where the staff has no powers to ban by IP.

My two cents.

And, at the end fo the day, it's not my board. I can give an opinion, but that's all.

For the most part the majority of the spam is like cockroachs on a white floor. We can see most it easy and remove it.

Its just at times its an infestation

We just have to dig in and remove it when it appears.

Spammers will actually pay people in China, and or maybe India, to post and get past the captchas or anything that a script can't do.
