Wow.. talk about grasping at straws. I don't know much about psychology or anything like that but I have to say I really don't agree with most of the stuff the lady mentioned in that article.

It really does look like they are having sex so maybe the extrapolation is " buy these jeans and have sex" but everything else?

I see no context for the stuff about "White men" I don't even see a lot of "domination" in the picture..

It does sound like something someone wrote up for a psych class. Probably trying to impress the teacher by reading a bunch of stuff into it. I know there are some Psycologists or Psychiatrists who visit this board, I think Stern is one right? I would be interested to see what their takes on the picture and the article are. maybe the author of the article is absolutely right.. and i am just missing the point, maybe I am such a pawn of advertisers that I an easily swayed to obey them...

Its really interesting how different conclusions can make people from the same pic...

"The lighting is hard I guess to show the "nastiness" of the image; sex is supposed to be rought and tough, not soft and sweet. The position of the male is in between the legs of the woman who is laying on the floor. He is dominating the woman and showing his power by being on top. The woman has one hand grabbing her hair and the other resting, almost grasping her breast to show that she is almost at the breaking point; barely able to handle the pleasure she is receiving. The lighting is set up so the part of the image that the eyes are drawn to the womans thighs and neck, two very sexualized parts of a womans body. There is no color or props, making this image very simple, meaning there is not much going on except two people about to get it on. "
As easy, he could be ready to put her legs over his shoulders and start... you know. And she definitely likes it, i think she's close to an orgasm... perhaps author needs some good sex.

I'm pretty sure the soft and sweet sex ideology has a MUCH bigger market share than the "rought" and tough one when it comes to marketing. Not to mention that guy doesn't look like he's about to have rough and dirty sex with her, he's gently caressing her legs and has a pretty soft look in his eyes. This is laughable... while the idea makes sense, the photo just doesn't really show any display of power/domination not to mention he's not really on top, he's upright and she's laying back. If his hands were making the slightest indentation on her skin - *maybe* I could get talked into her viewpoint.

And so what if it were a picture subtly showing a more powerful male displaying even a hint of sexual domination. I've NEVER been with a female who wanted me to act more wussy leading up to or during sex. Ask most vanilla women if they prefer a sissy man in bed or one who takes control and I think most would choose the second.

OK... where does it imply sexual gratification lies *solely* at the hands of a white male? Perhaps a multicultural, pan-sexual crowd all waiting for there turn to satisfy the woman would be a more positive message. I hate to say it but a great number of women do like being dominated (not just BDSM style) when it comes to their sexual desires. And this "feminist" just implied that such desires are wrong or of lesser value than being a dominant female. Where did she do her research on common patterns in female sexual psychology? A trip to a supermarket, let alone a book store, will show many a romance novel full of domineering and controlling men and I'm pretty sure those books aren't written for men.

Of course some women don't want this, but neither do some men. What about ads that show women using their sexuality to get what they want from awestruck men? An equally stupid article could be written on them, many men like being dominated by females. A strong, confident, smart, sexy woman will have most men creaming their shorts. Only women manage to make good livings as Dommes, implying men find female domination plenty appealing.

Why is it so wrong to want to lose yourself in the moment and let the other person take control?

Can we all just agree that this is the kind of argument that gives REAL sociologists a bad name? People read this opinion-based unsupported crap and then (wrongly) associate actual studies that have supportable and repeatable reseach with it and that is just sad.
