From just after the war until the early fifties, my mother used to serve us with spam dipped in batter and fried. We thought it was better than anything else. That was before that pesky upstart FR was even a twinkle in his father's eye. We got the real spam, not the processed shit that they have these days. We also got malt, orange juice and dried milk. That's why I've lived so long. Spam, spam and more spam.

If the mere existence of Batffink is any indication, Bat's father found other options.

Spam isn't that bad, actually. I haven't eaten any in more years than I care to admit to, but it was a staple in our house for a while. Never had it fried in batter but since it was the default "meat" at home it seemed to show up in everything at table.
