A question about "rep" - Rape Board

I'm curious about how "rep" works. I've read the sticky for this thread with the explanation about how it works. But I'm a bit confused yet it seems. The search function didn't help me either though with me being a newbie here, I may have well been searching for the wrong terms.

All of a sudden my rep jumped from 10 to 22. I'm not complaining, but how would that happen in just a day or two? It was stuck at 10 since I joined and I find it unlikely that over a period of a couple of days I posted that it would jump by 12 people giving me "rep."

I'm missing something simple here. Not sure what. But if someone could enlighten me I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for an explanation on what I'm missing. I'd give you "rep" for doing so but it is my understand that I can't do that until I have quite a few more posts.

How much rep someone can give you is based on what their rep is. Your 12 point jump was most likely just the result of one person giving you + rep, but you can find out for sure by clicking the link on the upper left hand side of the page that says User CP. Once you click that, the first thing you will see is a listing of the latest rep you have received.

Hey, thanks for answering that question. I didn't know that how much rep you got was determined by how much rep the giver had.
