Greetings!

Since we seem to have many members from Australia and NZ here this might be of interest. It seems as those in charge wish to further protect the good citizens of Australia from them selves.

"The new Labor government wants internet service providers to filter content to ensure households and schools do not receive "inappropriate" material."

"Service providers will be expected to stop the flow of pornography and other X-rated or violent content."

You poor folks, first they took your guns, now they want to take your fun.
The article stated there was a provision to opt out, but that means your name could end up on a list.

I remember hearing something similar afoot in the UK a while back. Not sure of the outcome. With Yahoo and Google helping the Chinese restrict internet access and the upcoming coronation of King Obama, (if you believe the polls,) can the US be far behind?

Canada is trying to do it too. They're saying it's to protect minorities from hate speech - porn isn't listed (YET!).

Good luck with keeping the access. It never ceases to amaze me what government will try to do to "protect" people when in all reality they are just looking for more control over people. Free speech is so far a given here in the US, but I fear for it as our rights are slowly taken away from those we elect.

Problem is that even though our rights are being "taken away" people won't care because majority think its bad so they take it from everyone. Sorta like if 6 out of 10 people don't like cherry ice-cream but the other 4 do, the company stops selling it even though its not fair the other 6 could care less about the other 4.

Sorry if it sounds confusing.

It was the former Australian "Liberal" government that ruined the porn industry in Australia, making it illegal to buy X rated stuff everywhere except Canberra.
