Has anyone thought about using torrents?

I was just wondering why no one has thought of using torrents?
They offer the same level of anonymity and there is no cost to the user on either end. It would make files much more available and could use an external tracker or a private one user could only access.

I can't say how much it aggravates me that I can only DL one file a day from most of the hosts used here because i don't have accounts with them. This sure would make me happy.

I hate a lot of the download places too but torrents offer far less anonymity. If you download from a file sharer someone would have to demand, legally with some legal authority that they give out ip info for whoever downloaded some file. Much easier, and from my experience (I work for an ISP) they usually just demand the link or site be taken down,
For bittorrent, all they need to do is try to download any file same as you and they can instantly see who else is sharing the file. You can too in your torrent client. That is how they can get you.
There was a recent article about a company that was working on behalf of porn producers going after bittorrent downloaders.

Yes, I use torrents but only when I can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere. Lots of them do not contain what they advertise, so it's a crap shoot.

The porn torrents are mostly membership only, with uploading/seeding requirements and the like.

I really have better luck searching out various download links on forums like this one.

We want to offer our members a maximum of transparancy as well as security when downloading files made available on RapeBoard.

Torrents - any version of P2P downloading - requires additional software and several seeders to successfully download at a reasonable speed. Invading and harmful software can easily be slipped in. Completing the download altogether is also not guaranteed.

File hosters, direct downloads are the most comfortable and secure way to download files. That's why we do not have torrents on RB.

Most trackers have become obsolete - or at least secondary - given the advent of magnet links. Moreover, private VPNs allow for secure, anonymous downing of .torrent files, particularly on private hubs/trackers/magnetlinks. The only problem is that it's added technology, each bit of which has its own insecurities. .Torrents are no more insecure than browsing on the internet or downloading a file from a filehoster, Starsong.

For those users who have an actual interest in the matter.

Compared to direct links to file hosters, all made available exclusively by members of RB they certainly are less safe.

Everyone who feels torrents offer equal safety is free to use them of course, just not on RB.

No internet activity whatsoever is perfectly safe of course.
Installing and running any program that keeps a connection to the internet to download files can create safety risks.

MyDownloader however is a single program meant to collect and download only links choosen by you. I don't use the program myself but many members do use it and so far there have been no complaints at all.
