Nowadays, we have games where your mission is to solve a murder, games where you murder legions of monsters or opposing mortals or undead, games where entire empires are yours to lead or to crush. Murder has become generalized. There are specials on cases of murder, murder shows, murder channels, and of course, high profile murder trials. Murder is popular, fascinating, addicting. I should know. Both of the women in my house have murderers as a passion and a hobby.

You almost never hear about the worse than being killed – rape – unless the killer raped and killed, or in some cases, killed and raped. It has been decades, and murder eclipses rape in media. Will the day ever come when rape is as generalized? When you are playing a game trying to solve a series of serial rapes – and maybe, as a female detective, you must avoid getting raped yourself. Games where it is as easy to rape someone as to kill or rob them. True reality. Japan has made serious strides with eroge and the infamous rape simulator RapeLay.

But Japan is far away from America, hemispheres distant in both locale and culture. I do not think rape will ever gain true traction. It is too heinous, too evil. Rape Board and Internet sites and torrents catering to the fetish may be all it can be able to eke out.
