Is this a contradiction? - Rape Board

I was browsing a profile on another site. The format is simple, there is a set of questions and people are asked to answer them. One in particular caught my eye:

"What ticks you off about other people?"

The answer: "Right wing people.... Those who judge others before even getting to know them...."

Possibly 1 out of 4 profiles I see on this site has something along these lines in answer to this question. Is this person contradicting themself, jumping to a conclusion about a whole group of people, without getting to know the individual first? Is there perhaps just a smidgen of hypocrisy in this?

It is, in its own way.

Pretty much everyone ... well, at least "disagrees" with one or more certain types of people or doesn't like one or more specific mindsets. That's perfectly normal.

It's quite easy to assume every single person belonging to one defined group (defined by the members themselves or eventually just others) is pretty much the same and thus judging them all just the same.

Right wing party members, Germans, Muslims, men, academics, blacks, ... it doesn't matter. We define a group and instantly assume every member of this group falls into a pattern or category of human being we think to see.

Claiming however to oppose a certain kind of group, because it judges others without knowing them ... without knowing them yourself, lumping in every single one of them. They're both the same.

We all do it some degree, consciously or subconsciously but we still do.

you should get to know people before judging others its not that hard to do dont know why some people judge before knowing..

If a person is going to label themselves as belonging to a group (it doesnt matter what kind of group) then they should accept the fact that they are going to be judged by that label and not cry or whine about it when it happens.

If I call my self a Bluedog Democrat (which I am) then I should be willing to accept the baggage that goes along with it (which I do). Now if someone were to try to say that I'm a neo-nazi or a communist or some other group whose goals and ideals I do not share, then I would have reason to complain.

You might not really know a person even after years and everyone of the billions of people on this planet is different so it is easier to say that than to actually do it.

Well as Sternenlied pointed out group comparisons and group judements are going to made by nearly all of us at one time or another. It's just something people do. (most people anyway).

Yeah its a major contradiction Its one that gets made alot usually by middle class liberal morons. (hey guess who I don't like)

Its the people in this world who preach tollerance while still harbouring predudices that make this world a fouler place. Yeah theres groups and types I don't like. Chavs, the middle classes, asian drivers. I just avoid them
