The clergy
What is it about religion that attracts the dregs of society to be ministers and priests? Our local minister has just resigned and is being charged with kiddy fiddling. I was never a great believer in religion especially the Catholic church with all its mumbo-jumbo and even less now after all the sick fucking priests and even Bishops and Cardinals joining in.
A few years ago I attended church to please my wife but after we got involved in a dispute with the new minister (who wanted the congregation to buy him a new home at vast expense) we started going to a different church. The greedy minister eventually left (read: kicked out) and we decided to return. "Oh no" the Bishop of Tasmania ruled, "you must first be counselled" Well they could go and get well and truly fucked I decided. The upshot was that my dear wife's funeral service was forbidden to be held in our previous church as she had wanted. They wanted US to be counselled when they were all interfering with children and piously mouthing platitudes at the same time. Religion is a farce in my opinion, ruling with fear the frightened and ignorant, and it's about time it was exposed for the farce it is. Rant over.

I was raised Roman Catholic. Services in Latin, the odor of sour mash (smells like a pig farm) and the rigid dogma of the church are my first memories of religion. When my great grandfather died, our priest came to my grandfather and asked for money to pray my great grandfather out of purgatory. As tradition dictated, the priest was given money. A week later, the priest made a second trip and told my grandfather that his father had been exceedingly evil and more money was required to get him out of purgatory. At that point, my grandfather kicked the priest out of the house and never attended the church again. My grandmother and all of my aunts and uncles still attended the church. As a teenager, I bought bootleg liquor and beer from the same priest. About a decade after his confrontation with the priest, my grandfather died. Much to the chagrin of the entire family, the priest refused to perform the services. After that, only one of my aunts continued to attend the Catholic church. The priest continued to sell alcohol to minors in a dry county until his death in the late 1990's.
I know little of the Anglican church, but it sounds similar to my experiences with the Catholic church. It has been my experience that everyone has a different mind's view of God. I think it's important to have a covenant with your God and not break that covenant. One should make peace with his God within his own heart and I some how doubt that God will be found in a church, temple, mosque, synagogue or in front of a TV watching some evangelist. However, I do believe that we all need to send whatever we can to Rev. Foley on channel 7. If the good reverend is going to chase the devil, he needs that new Cadillac!

Religion itself is not bad. It's when man warps religion to suit themselves or just claims to follow it without really following it that it becomes bad.

But, alas, such is the nature of man.
