Personally I think it will be a sad day when we let feminazis shut down adult publications through their actions, cause how long after will it be before they come after vanilla forums and then ours?

Oh and Dick right, the women I know are pressured far more by pictures in the Celeb mags then they have ever been by Nuts/ Zoo etc
Pete? I'm not whining about it. I LIKE IT! !

True, I work in retail, so most of the people I work with are female, and guess what, they are far bitchier about other women than the men tend to be.

Yeah, you do get the odd man who makes derogatory comments, but most other blokes tend to think they are assholes anyway.

I didn't raise a teen-aged girl, by the way, but it hasn't been THAT long since I was one. I remember being distressed with my body - first because I had no bust, then because when I acquired one it was bigger than the "ideal". My mother didn't help much (she was a mean drunk), but I finally learned to accept my body for what it is.

And I did help the cause by raising sons with an appreciation and respect for women as people - and by teaching them acceptance of the endless variety of body shapes and sizes.
Again true, education is more important. You won’t complete eradicate sexism, but you sure as hell can lesson it.

And women need to be educated as well, just cause a man may look at a ‘lads mag’ and think ‘cor, look at the tits like that’ don’t automatically mean he is going to treat women like meat, even if he finds her attractive. Most of us can separate the fantasy from reality.

Not all men are misogynists, just like not all feminists are card carrying men haters.

I am a prime example, I write stories. Now in these stories women get raped, sometimes it’s via violence, sometimes via blackmail or drugs. Now some of these stories come from fantasies of mine, but here the thing, that doesn’t mean I am going to grab a knife and hunt a woman down an alley, or buy some drugs to date rape someone now does it?

By banning them you push stuff like this underground, make it more taboo and probably a hell of a lot more attractive for people, especially teenagers, I know it would for me. And make a hell of a lot of men more resentful and more likely to harbour ill feeling, you know what they say, give a dog a bad name and all that.

I can see where women's magazines influence the way my adult teenage daughter dress. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. I think most young ladies and professional ladies alike want to dress in the latest fashion.

I think before WWII there was not much advertising geared towards women who where for the most part stay at home housewives with no real money of their own. After the men all went off to war it was necessary that the women join the workforce to help support the war effort.

I think during WWII women liked the freedom and independence that earning your own money gives a person. Women now had their own money, and where there is money there is a market. marketing aimed at women is merely giving them what they want, pretty things. if the women weren't buying it, there would be no market for it. so I see no Objectification of women in women's magazines.

Porn magazines is the Objectifying women, but you don't see Porn magazines displayed in the checkout lines of department or grocery stores.

See here's the thing. Ppl don't live their lives thru mags, they see everyday ppl, its well known mags are airbrushed. I don't think ppl are that silly and naieve they'd take a fashion mag or mens mag as gospel of how women look.

What they're doing is showing beuatiful ppl. Models are beautiful, and they are thin because clothes hang better. Its an industrylike any other, selling ideals and beauty. Women are beautiful, they have nice assets ahem.. boobs.

I don't see where the argument that womens mags affect ppl detrimentally. Pehrhpas tweens maybe, but you see those kids grow up.

The reason ppl run into personal problems, or illness really has nothing to do with the issue. I really believe that. Sure they might make them follow fashion, but what's the ahrm in that?

If you notice worldwide statistics, ppl aren't getting thinner, they're actually getting fatter. In aus, obesity affects more than 60 percent of adults. Not sure about kids, but its becoming a problem.

In my day, no one was fat, we didn't have videos games (at least we only had omega pcs etc) we ran around and played, not plonked in front of the tv to shut us up. We didn't have the internet, and very adult I knew was a normal weight. My family always encouraged physical activity.

There's way more pointers to mental illness, or eating disorders than some fashion mag. As I said before, anorexia has a 100 percent morbidity rate. Ppl odnt starve to be the normal kind of thin, they starve way beyond that sexy thin point. Of course the internet has a culture of ana wannabees, who idolise anorexia as a weight loss tool.

When I was in the midst of it, I weighed and maintain a tiny 32 kilos for over 2 years. I now have brittle bones, and hormone imbalances, took me 7 years to start mentstruating again. But that's got nothing to do with my point.

Just think about it guys.

I do not in any way support a ban on dude mags or any other kind of publication. However I am not prepared to jump on any 'those crazy bitch feminists' bandwagon, either. The chick is taking it to extremes however I do also see her point. I also think that, though a fair amount of us would take care to be involved in our children's lives enough to educate them about these issues, I think we're grossly overestimating the intelligence of the general public.
