I've heard it is possible to configure my account to stay logged on. Can someone tell me how this is done? I was looking for some check box in settings, but unsuccessfully

And I thought I am a computer geek

Hmm, probably found that. The check box in log on form

I thought it is only for remembering nick/passwd, seems it keeps you logged also.

Indeed, that's how it works.

Next to your username and password you can also check a box called "remember me".
If you check that box before you hit "login" the system will not log you out when you close your browser.

Remember however the system will not check you out. So in case your using a shared computer (siblings, public terminal, etc.) everyone opening the browser, visiting RB can use your account.

So you'll have to hit "log out" if you actually want to make sure your account is safe and sound.
