Post whores.

Ok, so, perhaps somebody can explain what a post whore is supposed to be? Preferably in loud, slowly expressed sentences containing short words.

It would seem that I'm a killjoy, just because I don't understand the concept. And then seeing the reaction to my comment in the post whore poll, I'm frankly confused. My intention wasn't to create negativity of any sort, I've been enjoying the Phannys and everyone knows I can give as good as I get, whether it be light-hearted banter or all out flame war. So I'm hardly going to get upset over being nominated a post whore.

Perhaps it is someone else being over sensitive? If I had a problem with any nomination I would just come out and say it clearly.

Beh i don't think that someone here got offended for the nominations...it will be stupid to me since is just a moment of fun you know!
For the rest...well...i could be nominated as "Poster Whore" as well...no doubt about it!!!

postwhore = posthog = prolific-thread starter

Not just someone who posts a lot of replies but someone who starts a lot of threads

Yes generally stands to mean someone who posts alot. Urban disctionary defines it as such though:

"A post whore is somebody who posts mostly meaningless messages consisting of one word or just emoticons. They have an unsaid ability to magically appear in any thread at any given time to add crucial arguements to the debate at hand."

Someone who posts a lot, could be said to be trying to get a reaction, so they're an attention slut or a troll. Now I'm even less enlightened.

Now the use of the word whore. A whore has sex for money, or maybe a crack whore has sex to get crack. How does posting a lot come in to the business of being a whore? We all do this for free and the term post whore doesn't even appear to line up very well.

Seems to me that someone somewhere back down the line had nothing better to do than coin some shocking and insulting phrase and somehow it stuck.

Post Whore is a very negative thing on many boards but like many words and phrases it's all about who uses it and their intent behind it.

Like it has been said.Here it just means you post a lot.Many other places it means you have nothing to say and you are just posting to get your count up.

There is a woman on another site who, I kid you not, has a post count in the region of 1/2 million. She rarely says anything of note, although when she does it is usually well written and considered. She just likes doing all the games and quizzes. That's it. Everyone takes the piss out of her for having such a high post count and I could never understand that. It's just what she does to fill her day. Leave her be for fucks sake.

Then there is this bloke on the same site who took five years to reach 1000 posts, and everybody takes the piss out of him too!

True FR, the internet is strange place populated by strange people.

It's funny how easy it is to get a high post count, it only fells like a little while I was in single figures, yet now I'm reached over a thousand, but I would say less then have of them, maybe a lot less than that, are worthwhile post, most of them are bullshitting around on games and wind ups.

So I suppose that makes me a bit of a post whore. But even if I could go back a few months, I would still post them, they were part of having fun on the site.

Darkones right about usage, it's like all words, it depends on who uses it against who. It's the same as throwing the words bastard and bitch around, friends use tham in affection, just as nickname, such 'oi, you old bastard, it's your round'.

FuckingRotter, I've been reading your posts for several months now, and it's obvious that this point really bugs you. I've never seen you get so hot and bothered about anything, especially not terminology.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that everybody (including you, I think) knows this is in good fun. You have no trouble calling Batffink a cunt, and yet you like him and nobody takes offense. I don't understand why this has become such a "thing" for you.

I think Sierra it's just my general antipathy toward Internet terminology boiling over into mild frustration. I don't see why we need phrases like attention slut and postwhore, any more than we need to read ridiculous statements like:

"LOL You made me laugh out loud!"

Erm, apologies to whoever wrote that little gem.

It's dumbing down, it's also a use of language that not everybody gets. I recently got slated by some arsehole in another forum for not knowing what "YMMV" meant, and when I explained to him that I genuinely didn't know, he said it was impossible for me not to know because I had been on the Internet as long as he had, and he told me I was a liar!

Stupid man.

So there you have it. I like plain English. I don't like people who use big words to cover their inadequacies, and I don't like when people dumb down because they're too fucking lazy to express themselves to the full extent of their education.

You're not going to get an argument from me about dumbing down, nor will you see many of the abbreviations people use - they madden me. I was just astonished that this particular term made you insane for some reason.

In truth, FR, it IS all in good humor and a bit of fun on an internet board. Although I doubt seriously that you are losing sleep over it, I wouldn't waste even one more brain cell on it.
