It used to be huge to have rep higher than your post count. Now, we have Rep Board.

Once a friend told me that he only wanted rep based on what he posted rather than his friends giving him rep. I respected him for that.

The times are changed...but it's fun anyway...reps can be taken in different ways...10, 100, 1000...what's the difference???
The only important thing is to get fun...if you start to look who has more reps then you and so on...the fun is over!

I like getting rep, its nice. As I have said in a previous thread, it is something nice to receive, especially when you first posting and finding your feet. This place can be a bit intinimating to newbies sometimes, so if someone shows apprecation it can give you the confidence to continue posting and making a contribution, and this is whats needed for the board to grow and survive.

As for giving rep, on occasion I have given rep to people because they have seemed a bit down, or troubled, to both show support and try and cheer them up. I have also given rep for posting something. Not necassarily that I've agreed with, but because of the way it was argued.

I can see what you are saying, but don't forget that there are more and more of us with other 10-20 thousand rep points, so when we give rep, we can give a 100+ points in one go. And look at Phantom, 34thousand plus, 340+ rep points.

Also, I have read a couple of comments for relative newbies stating that they would like to give rep, but there's is too small to make a difference. My answer to them is, give it anyway, every bit helps.

I give rep when someone makes me laugh. Or when I completely agree with someone. I occasionally give rep as a gesture of friendliness to someone or a return of rep, but I usually just post a profile comment for this. I have given rep when lots of people give someone (a newbie usually) bad rep for a misunderstanding and told them to choose which way they want to go. Usually they go down anyway and then vanish but its good to give people a chance.

As for gaining rep. On 250 posts I have 5k. At least 50 of the posts were word games so it seems a little easy. But its all fun really. Noone outside of a message board cares about how many rep points you have on a message board, and its just a nice thing, nothing to get worked up over.
