Default my dream "BCS" American College Football

a few things would have to change for this to happen . those things are ....

season would have to start earlier

all teams would play at least 12 games in a season with a 1 week bye somewhere along the way

teams would have to have a winning record to qualify . no more 6-6 teams going to a bowl game , have to be a 7-5 record or better

regular season and championship games over by the first week of december

now for the BCS ...*

first week of december is a bye week , games start the second week

32 teams in the playoffs . have another bye week for college finals during playoffs

first week is lowest level bowls , 2nd week next tier bowls and so on . leading up to the upper level ones

all bowl money is put into a pool . 1st week payout is 1 million (?) , 2nd is 1.5million (?) and so on . advance and your college makes more money , but all 32 teams make something . in the final (Championship) game the loser gets paid a smaller amount than the winner , but still gets paid for making it there . also #3 and #4 teams play in the final week before the champiomship game .

that makes for a 5 week playoff with (roughly) a third of the teams competing in it .

you should have all conference champions in it , along with some at-large bids . if division 2 and 3 want to be included they would have to finish up their season (playoffs included) by the cut off date and the champion would be an automatic at-large bid .

*this is going by the last time i looked . they were 32 bowl games , the payout goes by the overall money ....

thoughts ? feelings ? changes ?

i Think that is perfect!I have always had a problem with the BCS.Things should be settled on the field. Not polls and a computer telling you what to think. My home team is 6 and 5 and they might get a bowl.It makes no sense to reward them for the season.(and there my team)I don't know if things will ever change but your plan would be great!

I know it's the NFL but i had no Collage Gifs.
Plus Tecmo Bowl ruled.

Sigh, as much as I would want that to happen, its just not going to. A BCS game brings in some 17 million for a school, with an additional 5 for the conference. Just no way, no way in hell that is changing. They aren't going to share.

The real purpose of the BCS isn't to determine a champion, it is to "create the best bowl matchups" thereby creating more money.

Only two undefeated teams in Division 1 (or whatever it is called now) and niether of them have a chance at the title.

thank you theDarkOne . i don't have as big a problem with 6-5 teams as i do with 6-6 ones . but yeah there is probably some 7-5 or better teams that should get the bid instead .

i agree with some of your post the savage . first i do think Florida and Oklahoma are prolly playing the best football of any college team right now and they are deserving to be there , but yeah with 2 unbeaten teams out there ... Utah and Boise State should be playing for the championship . can't ignore them IMHO . Boise already beat up on Oklahoma the other year to prove they can play with the big boys .

i tried to address the reasons people give for keeping the current chaos with my idea ...

bowl games are a tradition ... so i kept them , just modify them a little .

the finals break ... my format has a break for them (even tho that doesn't interfere with basketball) .

season to long with playoffs ... 16 teams would only play 1 playoff game , 8 more would only play 2 more and so on ...

and finally money ... under a system like mine all teams get at least 1 million (more than most lower level bowls pay) under mine (making a guess) it would be something like ....
16 teams that lose in the first round - 1 million
8 teams that lose in the second round - 2.5 million
4 teams that lose in the third round - 4 million
4th place team - 6 million
3rd place team - 7 million
runner up 8 - million
champion gets 10 million

any money left over would get split among the conferences participating . compared to the way it is now ...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...4167.htmlstory
http://www.bcsfootball.org/bcsfb/facts

and yes i know it won't be changed into mine , but i think a 4 or 8 team playoff isn't far away . 10 years maybe ? once that happens i hope it will evolve into something like "March Madness" ....

http://www.sportsline.com/images/mad...le_men.gif?581
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Me...l_Championship

which is what i based my "bcs" on . oh and with this you could keep the polls for the match ups . and they would also decide #5-32 after 1 thru 4 is decided on the field ....

I'm not disputing that your arguments carefully counter the reasons that the major college powers put forth for not having a true playoff. However those are not the real reasons that the BCS exists. College football could care less about a title, and says screw it, we want more money. They have decided on a formula that no one understands to pick the 'two best teams' to play for the "championship".

Of course this same formual gives us the following results.
Utah is ranked behind USC, despite playing and defeating more top twenty opponents, having a better record, and beating Oregon State, the team that beat USC.

Texas is ranked behind Oklahoma, despite beating them by 10 points on a neutral field.

Florida is ranked higher than Texas, despite the fact that Texas beat more ranked teams, and higher ranked teams. And Texas' loss was by 6 points to a 1 loss conference opponent at the last second while Florida lost at home to a 4 loss team.

Alabama is ranked ahead of Boise and Utah, both undefeated, both beating more ranked opponents, despite the fact that Alabama has one loss.

USC is ranked ahead of Penn State, despite the fact that they both lost only one game, on the road to a conference opponent. Penn by a last second field goal, USC was dominated in their loss. Penn State also throttled Oregon State, the team that dominated USC.

There are more, but I don't have the time. However you counter the arguments in favor of the BCS, it won't matter. Those are simply a fig leaf over the true goal. More money for the 6 major conferences.

can't disagree with much if what you posted the savage as i'm against the current format of the BCS . but it is gonna change , like i said soon it will be a 4 or 8 team playoff . public opinion is going to make that happen and if you look at the history of college basketball that is what grew into "march madness" . as i stated already i don't think it will turn into mine , but that shows it can work ...

the basketball link and quote ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Me...l_Championship

Code:
The NCAA tournament has expanded a number of times in the last
65 seasons. This is a breakdown of the history of the tournament format:

1939-1950: eight teams
1951-1974: varied between sixteen teams and 25 teams.
1975–1978: 32 teams
1979: 40 teams
1980–1982: 48 teams
1983: 52 teams (four play-in games before the tournament)
1984: 53 teams (five play-in games before the tournament)
1985–2000: 64 teams
2001—present: 65 teams (with an "opening round" game to
determine whether the 64th or 65th team plays in the first round)

Prior to 1975, only one team per conference could be in the NCAA tournament.
However, a few factors led the NCAA to expand the field, notably the
1971 season when USC was #2 in the country with only 2 losses (both
to #1UCLA), and the 1974 ACC basketball Tournament final between Maryland
and NC State, both of whom were top 5 teams that year
