Chile isn't too impressive! If you're gonna go to South America go for Peru, Brazil or the northern part of Argentina like Beunos Ares or along the Platte River.

yeah...it does seem kinda pointless to go there just to go to Chile, even if i do get free accomadation..just dont think its worth the money

Peru is an absolute must!

Just be careful not to get trampled by the thousands of upper class British students stomping about like they own the place on their "year off"...which, of course, I didnt do!

Travelling through Chile is OK, the country is organised and very clean. You are unlikely to be robed or get ill if you avoid the bad parts of town. As for tourism, forget it. The only thing worth seeing is Atacama desert, and I don't think deserts are very impressive to an aussie, right?

i'm chilean, and i can tell you that if you come to America, i reccomend you come here to chile, well you see, i was in argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia and now in Chile, but Chile is the better place, maybe not for tourism, whatever if you don't want to see the Atacama's dessert, you can goo to see Southern Ice Camps, but if you wanna come to work, the citys of viña del mar, Valparaiso or Santiago are good places, but another countrys from south america are not safe like chile, you know... delinquency, and more if you are blond or caucasian, chile is soo pacific and full of works and people with money that you like for
