didn't think they would put date rape
in the funnies

I dont think this is so much about date rape, but about men being horny dogs, see, he's even holding her like a don juan. and its just meant to be funny. I dont find it offensive or disturbing in any way. Just meant to be funny and poke fun at what usually goes on. Nothing about rape,

I see what you're saying, Donnalee. It plays back to the old male myth of "no means yes" that dates back to before we came down from the trees. (And guys - it IS a myth. Usually "no" means "no" for lots of very good reasons, and you won't change our minds by forcing the issue. Learn some finesse, for heaven's sake!!!)

The fact that this cartoonist made this particular joke meant something else to me. Men have been looking for a way to figure out whether we're into them since time began, and most wish fervently to something as obvious as a tail wag to tip them off.

The artist's intent may have been to make the joke that you suggest Sierra, but I would be very surprised if the newspaper's editor does not receive letters from some people who found it disturbing. My gut feeling is that the good folks who work in rape crisis centres would find it very offensive, not to mention those unfortunate enough to have been victims of date rape.

Picture the two dogs replaced by a man and a woman, and Your mouth says "No" but your eyes say "Yes!" A woman's eyes may not be as visually expressive as the wagging of a dog's tail, but they are expressive nonetheless. I think that, if I were the newspaper's editor, I would have sent the cartoonist back to the drawing board.

Seriously, i've said things like that sometimes. It didnt worked all the times, but nobody got raped.
Girls, admit it, there are times (and if you had a tail it would waging those times) that no means "not yet, try harder" !

It's about date rape.

Frankly, I find it very innappropriate for the comics page of a newspaper.

My Master and his brother have a joke that's "No means yes, and yes means more" -- and I always respond that it's actually "Yes means more, maybe means yes." But no does mean no. (But if it's a no that turns into a maybe, then it's a yes.)

Well Jen, if we agree that there are more than one "no", i am sure we wont spoil it by disagreing on where one should drow the line between them.

To the people calling it a date rape: How can you be so sure about the development of that situation to a date rape?
