Drama Free Zone? - Rape Board

Looks like at least to me since the removal of a few malcontents, the drama level has left the red zone and returned to the green.

Any thoughts? Or just let sleeping drama queens lie?

Good grief. You people leave him alone. He is just giving voice to what each and every one of you is thinking.

I'm actually really grateful to CR for bringing this up. This last episode was NASTY - much worse than I've seen in a long time and involving seemingly everyone active on the board. Usually these things are confined to just a couple of people. Friendships were lost and people have left. Hopefully now that the air has been cleared, the people who left will eventually return (most do) and the burns we all felt stinging will heal a bit.

Yes, a few of the potential arsonists are gone. More will take their place.
CR has been around this board even longer than I have and he knows this relative peace is just the RB pendulum swinging back the other way. Trust me when I say that someone will light another match somewhere.

I will say though that I agree that whether friends or enemies(even though I haven't made any enemies yet.*knocks on wood*),RB is much more peaceful again now that a few posters have left us.Is it because they aren't here now that we are experiencing a cease fire?Well,I'm not sure but I do like the calm...

Is there maybe an element of "oh jeeze I better keep my nose clean for a while or I'm out of here" going on?

I will say it takes 2 to tango but for the most part we don't have enough dancers to get an arguement started just now but there is an over compensation happening for sure and I think thats a deliberate thing for most. Which is a good thing, delibratly doing a good thing is far better than doing it accidently.

Some people(obviously myself included)are not all daisy's and puppy dogs.
We have our own strong opinion that is not always sugary sweet.
I definitely have held my tongue on a few threads already.

Having said that i think there needs to be a good and fair balance between members posting their opinions with out fear.Coupled with respect to whom they are talking to.

Also with fair rules everyone can understand and at least feel a bit comfortable with.

Going on the date, that post's over a year old and as it hasn't stopped many people from expressing strong opinions I think we are on safe ground...I think the point of this is for when a debate gets into more personal levels, some of which could be seen as borderline bullying.

I think the trouble is, there are a lot of members who get in debates here who, how can I put this without starting a row, don't know when to shut up. They must have the last word, and if someone happens to disagree with them, then that becomes almost personal.

All that happens then is that the same points go round and round and round in ever decreasing circles until either they disappear up themselves, someone gets banned or a mod has to go to the trouble of closing the thread.

If you go through a lot of the rows, and not just the biggie we have just had, you will see the same thing.

I do respect mods and the job they do

but I got a bad habit of speaking my mind so if a mods involved in an open topic I see them as a member at that point and not a mod

perhaps a bad way to look at things but its what I think

having said that I would advise simply that if your in a public discussion with a mod involved be willing to pay the price

Don't forget here TDO many forums have that kind of "power" in the hands of the mods without even having to explicitly state it in the forum rules. Think of it in the same way that in the real world if you tease a cop enough he's gonna haul your ass off for "disturbing the piece" {if you're lucky that's all he'll do!} whereas the same kind of taunting {for lack of a better word} towards an ordinary citizen would hardly raise an eyebrow and likely not attract any interest from the cops.

What makes this board more unique {or problematic} is the existence of the rowdy room. By establishing such a "free-fire" zone it makes the question of where exactly the line may be drawn much more murky. If nothing else when an argument devolves into simple name calling I would say it's time to put an end to it {the singular exception may be a troll roast - which is simply wholesome family entertainment}. On many forums arguments such as we have here at RB are never allowed to develop, the mods simply put the brakes on and if one or both or the affected parties continue {then they are subject to immediate ban}

My personal take on being a moderator is simple, if someone steps out of line I will caution them as soon as I am aware of it and if they continue they will be banned {no further warning necessary}. Again that depends on the forum itself and what level of support the mods have from the admin(s). As long as the rowdy room is used for "heated" discussions {or even an occasional personal beef between two folks} without devolving into childish fights simply for the sake of a fight, I would think that all is fair. So long as folks don't get the wrong idea about what the rowdy room is for.

First i just want to say that i was giving my opinion as a response to BTN's post.

I could break down both Pete's and SSR's posts and say,"this is wrong","this is basically what i said in my post","and this COMPLETELY has nothing to do with what i said", but why should i?It's a waist of my time.

Not to mention that this is a thread called Drama Free Zone and im not going to start any if i can help it.
