Inappropriate for children ...
At a friend's house today we were watching "Family Guy" and stumbled upon an episode I had already seen in English before.
Now, turned out the German TV version was cut, due to a scene most inappropriate for children. Let's take a look: Jackpot! This entire closing scene wasn't there. I have to admit, it got me thinking ... are such scenes actually unsuitable for children/teenagers? Thoughts?

Even though I consider a few of the "adult cartoon" episodes to be funny and it seems they have a cult following on many college campuses.
I considered the rudeness and value systems on display in virtually all of them to be detrimental to developing minds. I wouldn't let my son watch any of them until I was certain that his moral compass and value system were firmly set in the right direction. One of the reasons I password protect my files to protect children. To answer your question, no it is not appropriate. In my opinion, neither is the entire series. |

To be honest I'm not sure that is overtly appropriate for adults, considering how many girls do get abused.
I don't know about in germany but here in the UK, Family Guy airs at night, around 9pm (or later) on FX, or after 10.30pm on the BBC's cable channel. I must admit I'm not that keen on family guy, some episodes are funny, some just seem moronic. Same as most of these new breed of cartoon. The only one's I can watch is the Simpsons, which strangely does have a moral message about accepting people for who they are, and Futurama, and this last one can be a little, ahem, adultish in places. I think the problem with Family Guy is Peter, the father, he has Homers moronic stupidity, without any of Homers redeeming and more sympathetic features. Same as the children, they are just thick, not funny or cheeky. The only charector that I find funny is Stewie, the baby with the world dominaton complex, very funny at times. And, am I the only person to get a little creeped out by the episode where the mother marries the dog?

When I grew up, I never had remembered commercials about male enhancement.
My brothers kids (two kids under 10) ask me - me, what that was abput, & I just got up & walked out the room pissed off. MALE ENHANCEMENT COMMERCIALS I won't get into what paid advertisement I have seen during all hours of the night/early mornings here in the U.S., but tv has gotton WAY outta control to me for kids under 18. Since this is not in the rowdy room, I will limit on what my true feelings are about things like that. **shaking my head cause I can't believe what kids see nowadays** Sorry this isn't about the tv show - but commercials - just commercials alone can be too adult for kids Last edited by doggystylethatgirl; 04-09-2009 at 07:32 PM. |

i remember being a kid and seeing that ending when the show originally aired in 2000...i was laughing so hard. then again, no one gave a shit what i watched. point is, censoring tv is wrong. dont want anyone to see it? just dont air it. it should be an all or nothing policy, because seeing art censored isnt seeing the art, so giving out small portions is about as effective as just not showing it at all.

That particular scene most children wouldn't even get and while teenagers would most likely get it and some find it funny I don't see the scene as inappropriate for either age group. The question of whether such scenes are appropriate or not really just comes down to a matter of taste and opinion. Everyone has different tastes and opinions and certainly various communities and societies have different rules/opinions on what is appropriate for whom. Personally I think it's up to parents to decide what is appropriate for their own children according to their own values and according to the child. When you get right down to it what is appropriate for one child isn't for another and well...glad I'm not a parent

I would have allowed my son and stepson to watch that episode at 16 or 17, but probably not before.
I had way more restrictions on violence and twisted stuff than I did on mere nudity and/or loving sexuality once they got over the blushing stage. This is not cool.

So there is a parental guidence control thingy.
I don't want that Parental shit on my tv, but when you have family guests over, & they wanna watch, I have no control what comes on.I don't wanna spend money when I don't have to. What do you all think about commercials that kids sees nowadays compared to about 15 years ago?? |

Then, "Adult Cartoons" are introduced. The adults are always stupid and self focused and the children are always smarter and more enlightened. BULLSHIT!!! Everyone is rude beyond the even the least acceptable standards of a reasonable society! After children have their moral compass set in the right direction, you can feel comfortable turning them loose and letting them decide for their selves! Until then, turn this perverse crap off and do not let television raise your child. |

For some strange reason, I don't deem that inappropriate... In fact I think the opposite, people need to be confronted with this things, then Parents (yes... you actually have to do something in life) need to show the kids that even though its funny, it's wrong to be done in real life.

First I must say
There is a section for streaming movies Stern (jk please don't hurt me) I have never seen the show or any part of it until now since one station had already decided to cut the scene obviously one of the censors thought it was to provocative for children. I am kinda on the fence. Does "Jackpot" mean now I can spank her cause she is tied and gagged or now I can screw her or now she is finally silent ?. I think young kids would not understand or think a thing about it perhaps teens may think its kinda provocative but its been a long time since I was a teen so cant say for sure. I don't think this particular example is anymore harmful then Texas chain saw massacre which is freely available throughout the states with no age limit. |

I don't know too much about Family Guy, although south park makes me giggle. Is family guy not the same though and meant for a mature audience? I thought they were cartoons meant for late teens or adults and not for children.
If Family Guy is meant for children then in my opinion yes its innapropriate. But you have to bear in mind a lot will just go over their heads. As I said in the wrestling thread, children tend to see things on screen and take it for face value (only what they see on screen). They would see the girl tied up and the guy saying jackpot. They would laugh and not know what they are laughing at. Adults see the bigger picture. A lot of childrens shows if you watch them now have funny references to adult themes, but as a child it really just goes over your head. Last edited by Lucy.; 04-10-2009 at 09:13 AM. |

I love Family Guy.....Some of the funniest stuff on tv.
Should kids watch it?Thats up to the parent. All of the new episodes have a warning b4 it starts but the reruns don't.They do censor them because they show them around 6pm.I grew up watching everything.(i watched Videodrome as a kid, thats a F-ed up movie right there)I had a mother though who taught me right from wrong so tv and movies never were a problem. Basically it goes like this...If you don't like it don't watch it.If you think its bad for your kids, don't let them watch it.Be a parent.Do your job. I will let Peter say it better... http://www.tudou.com/player/outside/...rt=false&rurl= just forward to the 20:35 mark... |
