I have an idea to make some separate forums on non-English languages (f.e. Spanish, French, German).

How do you think?

Would these sit within the RB site though admin or be totally seperate?

I dont know...would this not create a feeling of seperation or segregation...i mean, im aware of my obvious bias as a English speaker to have everyone posting in my native language...but I fear it would alienate the "international" flavour of our board. One of its best features is its truly international mix...

On the other hand, i can battle through written French, Mandarin and some Spanish...

I think to make NEW sections for not-English-speaking users.

I don't have a problem with it Admin but it will be hard to moderate those sections because I don't speak any of the language. Though I'm sure we could still sniff out spam, LOL.

Well, Admin, if you want a moderator for the French section I"m your man, but have you seen a lot of frogs around here ?

Plus you will have to increase your visibility on French websites, which can be done by writings to site admins as you already know.

I can handle that for you if you wish. I've done it lately for a friend website and they've gain some visibility on Google.

For the record, I dont like the idea...

As an example, if we have a German section, why would the German members bother to participate in the main board if they are have enough German speakers to keep them interested in their own section.

I say again, please dont take this as a "everything must be in English" arrogance...for it most certainly isnt! xL

I just had another idea, I used to spend a lot of time on a french site having a rape and a scat section, I know a lot of people there, I could tell them to come to RB french section....

I don't know if foreign language sections would be such a great idea...Moderating them being a big reason! Also do we really want ethnic E-neighborhoods on our very mixed board? I like everyone mixing and mingling myself

The way search engines work is the more you get links pointing to your website the more you get visibility. So having a multiple language site can push different countries 'portals' to mention RB and to give it links. It would considerably increase RB notoriety. Plus everytime I have been on international websites I have seen people of the same country speaking their native language during the first months and then gradually learning english and become more active in this language. Moderating can be done by some of us speacking the language of the new sections and anyway, if a section stays some time without a mod, is that really so bad ? You'll just have to pretend it is an extension of the rowdy room.

I think the reason why Admin chose not to have RB server in his own country is that international suing are heavy to handle. I heard about a French philosophy teacher who got death threats via email from a Muslim who didn't like what he said about Islam. The police looked at the email and found the sender IP. The Ip came from an American ISP so they asked the Us police to track that IP and they ended catching the sender in Morocco. That is the only international action I've heard about. Its not just the law...we just dont want anything like that talked about on the board. Its board policy, regardless of the law or the language its spoken about in.

A section for French speaking members, with a big bold colored sign: "People, do post any crap you have in mind." ShySnale will then translate in english and repost in another section, in which we answer and SS translates our answers and posts back in the Frenches room and they respond and then SS.......

I think that one of the reasons RB works so well and is miles ahead of any other forum, is because it brings so many interesting people together and has formed a pretty eclectic group. I'm not so sure i like the thought of any barriers being erected and potentially harming the dynamic of the board.... aside from the nightmarish job for the Mods in trying to keep an eye on anything untoward... besides...Mon Francais nes pas tre bon!!
