Coming in a bit late here, but I want to chime in on this because I think it's a common misconception. We've all, guys and girls, got a strong sex drive, but the drive manifests itself differently in males. It's a different set of hormones and a different part of the brain.

I could be being arrested, knowing that I was going to be sentenced to death, and if the officer arresting me is a hot girl, I will notice. It doesn't remove or change the other things I might be feeling, but it's always there, like tugging on a biological leash.

It's the only urge I have that works this way. For example, I can be really hungry at a restaurant and I don't have the urge to snatch food off someone else's plate. Unless I'm at the point of actual physical starvation, their food is disgusting to me and I don't want it. The hunger drive cooperates with the situation, doesn't push me to do the insane thing.

The sex drive knows no such bounds. It's obvious why, in an evolutionary sense. The species must reproduce even in times of famine and disaster. If depression could crush the sex drive out of us, such that an outbreak of black plague prevented us from popping a boner at the sight of a hot ass, the species would die out.

But it's hard. It's hard to live that way, with that constant nagging urge. At times, guys are almost at war with our own sex drive. It takes an enormous amount of constant energy to fight it.

Think about the child molestor who requested that he be castrated so he wouldn't molest again. Requested. Seriously; think about it.

Or think about the fact that half of the internet is porn, and most guys who grew up in the internet generation have twenty gigs of porn on their computer right now. He's not looking at it to admire the female form or feel fun and sexy, he's using it as a masturbation tool, to relieve that constant pressure. The young guys you know, the teenagers, probably don't go through a day without using it. I know I didn't.

So understand that a guy always has a little devil on his shoulder, and understand that a lot of his time and energy is spent fighting it. A guy in a committed relationship is resisting the urge to fuck every girl he sees. A guy who's never had a girl is kicking himself because he can't get the one thing he so desperately wants. A religious guy is clinging on until marriage. And so on.

It isn't cute. It isn't fun.

With all said and done, I think it's natural to wonder what it's like to experience things from the other side. I've certainly wondered what it would be like to be a beautiful woman for a day. To have that attention constantly on you, to have guys falling all over themselves to meet you or help you, just to be in your orbit. I'm sure it's a flattering feeling sometimes, and I'm sure it's annoying just as often.

But I think that both genders tend to forget the advantages we have. When you've grown up with something all your life, it's hard to imagining not having it, and many advantages and annoyances in daily life go unnoticed, because we've gotten so used to them.

Just remember, neither gender has an easy life. None of us are free from all the responsibilities and annoying people and petty crap that fill up our daily lives. That's part of being human, regardless of your gender.

Unfortunately, and at the risk of turning this thread into something more serious than I intended at the begining, I will have to say that your message will probably go completely over the heads of most female members on this board. And pretty much everywhere else, come to think of it. This is alien talk to many of them. It has been said many times, in many forms, to no avail.

People often say that women are better listeners than men. Well, women usually say that about themselves if we must be perfectly frank.

I'm not too sure about that, though. Do they really listen to us? Really? When? I would like to know the place and time just to go and see how it looks like.

Actually, it seems to me that the opposite is true: the gender doing most of the talking and very little of the listening for the past few decades has been the female of the species, not the male one. At least in the west.

Of course, it's doubtful men are doing much listening these days, either. But we could be excused somehow since the fact is that we did a lot of that in the past, and I'm not too certain in regards to the benefits accrued after such noble exercise.

Now, we can hardly blame women for not listening to what we are not saying, but it is my experience that when people like you say what you just said, very often they are accused of "rationalizing" male chauvinism, as if innate male sexual behavior were some sort of pathology that needs curing, not explaining. Let alone a bit of understanding.

Or as if it were that men feel the way we feel because we want to, and we have freely chosen to be the way we are.

My only response to that is... men: keep talking! Never stop! You will be accused of misogyny, chauvinism, etc. It's par for the course.

See, this is what I dont understand...you describe it as if it were an alien thing to me...but it isnt! I watched one of my ex boyfriend get arrested for DUI after we both had a serious accident that landed me in the hospital...and you know what went through my mind? "Damn that cop is really hot". Its not alien. I could be going through the worst time in my life, and I will notice a hot guy always!

I don't know you personally, and it might well be that you completely understand. Generalizations are never perfect, and I'm sure some girls feel exactly the things that I described.

But the way you so casually dismissed it earlier makes me think that's probably not the case. Not that I'm accusing you of being dishonest - sex drive is something that's incredibly difficult to describe and quantify, for obvious reasons.
