An illegal immigrant was allowed to stay in Britain because he had a cat, it was revealed yesterday.

The unnamed Bolivian was spared deportation after he told a court that he and his girlfriend had bought the animal as a pet.

Actually, I think this has some sound legal grounds. Purchasing a cat with his girlfriend (assuming a British national) can be construed as community of property, which is nowadays becoming more equal to official marriage.

So the 'family' in question would in fact pertain to his girlfriend, not the cat.

The news article was probably misleadingly worded on purpose, to make the news more 'sexy' for the readers. Or just as likely-the reporter was an airhead.

Still, you gotta miss the old days when you could easily blackmail a foreign bird into wedlock...

The European Charter on Human Rights. Although admittedly in this instance it has been stupidly interpreted by a British idiot (we do breed them), the charter is a piece of Eurocrat nonsense and nothing to do with us.

The whole charter is vague. For example "the right to life". Interpreted during my personal safety training when I worked for The NHS it means that if I see someone being attacked and believed their life was threatened I could use reasonable force to stop the attacker. Unfortunately this charter also protects the attacker, so he/she can then use more force to stop me attacking him. The whole thing escalates until one of us ends up dead.

Some protection of "the right to life" eh? It's a ridiculous set of rules, but given the authoritarian nature of The EU you ignore them at your peril.
