Granting of suffrage to some women, as well as working class men - previously to that granting of suffrage was a gradual process that more or less ensured the "right" people sat in the houses of parliament. Of course it continues today in the form of the Lords, who are appointed, not elected.
By the way, the first terrorist bomb exploded in Ireland in the 20th century was set by Suffragettes, not any evolution of the IRA! There is a bit of a side debate going on whether those jailed for criminal activities linked to gaining votes for women should be posthumously pardoned.
