I've just been reading about a newly released film, A Mother Brings Her Son to be Shot. It is about a mother bringing up two sons in an area of Londonderry still under paramilitary control after the Good Friday agreement, and dealing with life under paramilitary vigilantism.
In 2017 there were 24 paramilitary style shooting in Northern Ireland. Up to August this year there have been 19. Birmingham has the highest instances of gun crime in the United Kingdom at the moment, but the sort of violence we are seeing a resurgence of in Londonderry is unique to the province.
