First off, taxation and safety standards are not a level playing field across the EU, so that point is moot. Our own safety standards already outstrip European laws on this. You know full well that there are tax havens within the EU that allow British in all but name business to avoid paying tax here legally. Punitive tax policies haven't helped with this and will continue to drive firms to go elsewhere in Europe whilst they can.

The free movement of labour? This is a fucking insane policy when unemployment is so high here. As is EU citizens entitlement to benefits here.

The real issue here though is the major party protection of self-interest. The big three parties don't want out of Europe simply because it is another layer of government, puts more bums on elected seats, grows their power base, party revenues, etc. In short, more jobs for the old school tie network. That rings true across the political spectrum. I wouldn't even trust UKIP in this because an EU withdrawal would terminate their need to exist.

UKIP will become a major player in British politics though if the big three continue to just pay lip service to Europe and its various institutions.

The others, BNP, Greens, all that other nonsense, ate just a political sideshow, parties of progress.
