All I'm convinced is that religion is used in today's generations (as well many generations before us) to keep us under control and not revolt against higher powers. Those powers being government and corporations. As long as people believe there is an invisible man watching over us, ready to send us to hell if we go against the commandments, they will continue to smother themselves in blind faith and use it as The rationality for the existence of god. It's really clever brainwashing.
