Just to clue you in a little more, before the EU referendum campaigns really began, two official campaign groups were appointed by our electoral commission, one for leave, and one for remain.
The remain camp was headed by then Priminister, David Cameron. It had the support of every single living former Priminister, as well as leaders of QUANGO organisations such as the CBI, the governor of the Bank of England, and the leaders of all the major political parties apart from (obviously) UKIP. Remaining in the European Union was also the official policy of all those political parties.
The leave camp was headed by a bunch of rebel Conservative MPs and government ministers complimented with a few old school Labourites that were anti-EU from back in the 70s and early 80s. They completely refused to engage with UKIP and Nigel Farage over Brexit.
