The Belgian government has reacted negatively to the European Unions "negotiating" plans for trade set out today, suggesting that the EU wants to annex Northern Ireland.

If the UK government agreed, the province would be in a sort of limbo, not being in the EU, but subject to EU law, with EU officials examining goods and monitoring movement of people coming from the mainland UK!

This seems to be their solution to maintaining a frictionless border with the republic.
