This is getting silly now. Boris Johnson comparing Putin and the FIFA World Cup to Adolf Hitler and the Munich Olympics! The same Boris "diamond geezer" Johnson who was Mayor of London in 2012, the Queens diamond jubilee year and the year of the London Olympics.
Of course big international sporting occasions are for national glory, and for national propaganda, why else would cities and nations bid to hold them? Why would so many governments underwrite the cost of holding a Grand Prix, or for that matter the FIFA World Cup? Why else except to sell the image of nation and city to the rest of the world?
Britain is open for business, and so is Russia.
The European ruling elite need to bury this hysteria!
