Ireland has been a vassal state for centuries, the difference being the Irish north and south voted for their association with the EU. Not so with their domination from London. Last I looked Brussels hadn't shot down Irish civilians on the street or locked up a few thousand without charge or trial.

I will concede there are valid arguments on the leave side, but it is the choice of the Irish people. So far they have been crystal clear on both sides of the border to remain.
