As you say, "for now at least". The republicans have been at this for well over 100 years, a few more years,or a decade or two, they will wait. As they say, Tiocfaidh ar la, our day will come.

As to Westminster being firmly in control, it's barely in control on the mainland. A few short weeks ago, Scotland , Wales, and your own capital were looking to cut a deal to make seperate trade arrangements from the rest of England.
