C'mere, there's more!

The Telegraph are today reporting that Theresa May is supposed to have offered millions more in funding for Northern Ireland, if the DUP backs her Brexit plans. Various DUP MPs have already stated that money is not the solution, which is further proof that Theresa May is living in some sort of bubble where her plans make sense only to her.

It is also thought that several more cabinet ministers are considering resigning if Theresa May agrees a deal that leaves Northern Ireland in the European single market, and the rest of the UK in a customs union that prevents making trade deals out side of the EU.

Michel Barnier, the chief negotiator for the EU, has already stated that he wants to keep Northern Irish ports such as Larne and Belfast, as points of entry to the EU, post Brexit, and that this would certainly have to happen as far as livestock is concerned.

On the livestock he does have a point, because of disease control, there are already control measures in place when livestock and some foodstuffs are moved say from Ireland to Great Britain, or to mainland Europe. However, applying Barniers ideas would mean that Northern Ireland would not be included in any free trade deals that the UK made post Brexit, if we don't stay in the customs union.

In other words, in all but name, we cede Ulster not to Ireland, but to Brussels. I don't see that ending well at all!
