Sinn Fein has been consistent in their condemnation of dissident violence, and support for the PSNI. However, the six counties is still a very tribal sort of place. Two to three generations of nationalists grew up with only the IRA to turn to for law enforcement. The RUC were not the people you called to report a crime, they were the ones who kicked in your door in the middle of the night, or laid a baton up side your head as you walked home. As i said, it going to take quite a while for attitudes to change.
