Nigel Farage.

Best dressed man in politics? Donald Trump a close second? After commie scruff-bag Jeremy Corbyn was publicly shamed in Parliament by David Cameron, he certainly seems to be taking up Trumps favourite combo of blue suit and red tie. Obviously nobody ever told him the old joke from the 80s about Arthur Scargill.

grants70 02-26-2017 06:17 PM

Isn't Farage Trump's British new best friend?

FuckingRotter 02-27-2017 05:12 PM

Yes.

grants70 02-27-2017 10:34 PM

Any idea why Farage stepped down as leader of his party last year? I would have thought he would be on a high after getting the Brexit result he wanted. Now he seems to be wandering around aimlessly and latching onto the Trump bandwagon, which doesn't look very cool.

FuckingRotter 02-28-2017 02:46 PM

He got what he wanted from politics.

FuckingRotter 02-28-2017 02:55 PM

Isn't that the, more or less, job of a politician? To get what they want?

bigal 03-01-2017 04:35 PM

I got the impression most of the pro-Brexit politicians were caught off-guard when they won the vote. Almost as if they hadn't expected to win, hadn't planned for it and didn't know what to do next.
Maybe that's why Farage jumped ship. Left the messy details to someone else.

I don't blame him for that. Even the wisest heads can't say what is going to happen. Uncharted waters and all that.

bigal 03-01-2017 07:29 PM

I doubt politicians really ever fully know the consequences of what they do. They keep making the same mistakes of those who went before them, which is why the planet is in such a mess.

FuckingRotter 03-02-2017 02:31 AM

Apart from leading an anti-EU block of parties in the European parliament, Farage has never wielded any real political power. At least not in a way he could sort any mess out. He wuite simply entered politics to get the UK out of the EU.

If there is a mess to sort out, it is the mess made by David Camerons government, which introduced legislation to hold a referendum on our EU membership, and which undertook to act upon the result. It is he that walked away from it when he didn't like the result, leaving a mess for others to sort out.

Yes I guess that makes sense FR.

FuckingRotter 03-05-2017 10:35 AM

Just to clue you in a little more, before the EU referendum campaigns really began, two official campaign groups were appointed by our electoral commission, one for leave, and one for remain.

The remain camp was headed by then Priminister, David Cameron. It had the support of every single living former Priminister, as well as leaders of QUANGO organisations such as the CBI, the governor of the Bank of England, and the leaders of all the major political parties apart from (obviously) UKIP. Remaining in the European Union was also the official policy of all those political parties.

The leave camp was headed by a bunch of rebel Conservative MPs and government ministers complimented with a few old school Labourites that were anti-EU from back in the 70s and early 80s. They completely refused to engage with UKIP and Nigel Farage over Brexit.

grants70 03-06-2017 11:59 AM

The new PM seems to have her mind set on Brexit. No going back now by the look of things.

FuckingRotter 03-06-2017 10:03 PM

Oh, there is plenty of going back, right now. We're now nearly nine months since the referendum was held, and no further down the path of leaving the European Union than we were on the morning of 24th of June.

If any thing it is further away, between court cases (yes, the British legal system is more or less taking the British population to court), and the House of Lords, things are being intentionally sabotaged and held up. David Cameron should have notified the European Union of our intention to quit in June.

FuckingRotter 03-12-2017 06:47 PM

There is a suggestion that Nigel Farage may re-enter the political fray and renew his efforts to become a member of parliament. He has just reported UKIPs only MP to the police for election fraud, and has hinted that if there is a police investigation, and subsequent bi-election, he may stand as UKIP candidate.

So much for walking away, eh?

cunning linguist 03-26-2017 05:37 AM

Not to mention that Farage has a nasty divorce heading his way. He used to be my local MP and he has an eye for the ladies thats for sure.

FuckingRotter 03-26-2017 07:55 AM

When was Nigel Farage ever an MP? An MEP, yes, and still is. I'm not aware of him ever being an MP though.

cunning linguist 03-26-2017 08:37 AM

Meant MEP you are right. Far to much Vino Collapso consumed last night. I see his Oppo Carswell as jumped now also.

FuckingRotter 03-26-2017 11:55 AM

There seems to be a new post-Brexit movement developing to remove "rubbish careerist MPs", funded in part by former UKIP donor Aaron Banks. The idea is that crowd funding and social media is used to target MPs that support the European Union in areas that voted leave. I suspect that Carswell will be one of the MPs targeted. I also expect Nigel Farage will join this movement if UKIP are unable to keep itself relevant and radical.
