The governor of Florida has apparently told every one to get out because there is a storm coming. Some people aren't budging though, most notably a woman on the radio stating that "my house is solidly constructed and ten feet off the ground, and my husband has lived round here all his life and has always been ok".

People are really fucking stupid! When I was a kid living in the Northwest US there was a guy who refused to evacuate Mt. St. Helens when it was rumbling toward eruption and got vaporized along with much of the top of the volcano when it erupted...

A lot of older folk just fear moving out of their homes more than staying put.

This wasn't an older person. This wasn't even a person stating that they would rather die than leave their home. This was just some one with the deluded conviction that every thing would simply be ok. I expect they will even open the window to let some air in if it gets a bit stuffy!

What is it with people sitting on machines at the gym or even sitting on machines texting blocking the damn machines.

I read today that many people in Ireland were outside in Hurricane/Storm Ophelia, swimming in the rough seas and taking fucking selfies. Small wonder some people call the Irish stupid.

Swimming or diving in storm seas is something of a tradition on the west coast of Ireland, drownings not unheard off, but not common.

The swimmers and death wish selfie people definitely had the luck of the, well of the Irish. ;). The three people killed in the storm were killed by falling trees.

Two were killed by trees falling on their vehicles. One was killed whilst trying to remove a fallen tree with a chainsaw.

Apparently while the storm was still raging. That wasn't too clever.
