America: One party state dictatorship?

Well, you know the cliche, no matter who you vote for, the government always gets in. Today I was reading an article about how the Libertarian Party and Green Party candidates for the upcoming presidential elections in the land of the free have been excluded from televised debates because they don't meet the broadcasters approval criteria.

Ok, so how does a political candidate go about meeting that criteria if the media effectively censors them until they do?

Seems as though you Septics are condemned to a future not of your choosing.

tom8517 09-17-2016 05:53 PM

There has to be some type of criteria or every loon with delusions of grandeur would qualify for the debates. Currently a minimum of 15% in the major polls does not seem unreasonable. Both the green and libertarian candidate's are not
really worth any serious consideration anyway. During a recent interview with the libertarian about the ongoing mess in Syria was being discussed, he was asked a question about Aleppo, his response was "what's Aleppo". The other one is even more of nutter, she was recently arrested for vandalism after spray painting a bull dozer.

That said, it's not really any better with the two major ones. A nation of 300 million people and the best we can do is a corrupt political hack or a racist meglomaniac.

FuckingRotter 09-17-2016 11:41 PM

A loon with delusions of grandeur? Surely that's a perfect qualification for consideration as President?

FuckingRotter 09-18-2016 10:06 AM

Ok, put aside the quality of presidential candidates for a moment. Whatever the narrative of the Republican and Democratic candidates, they are effectively different shades of conservative, the noise coming out of America now after eight years of Obama is no different than when Bush or Clinton were on the job.

In the U.K, television media only began the habit of live electoral debates in 2010. It immediately changed our stagnant political landscape. The Lib Dems were suddenly a party of government! Then in the 2014 European elections Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage went head to head live on television. UKIP became the first party other than Conservative or Labour to win a national election for over 100 years. And on it went. Lib Dems sent in to oblivion in 2015, with UKIP the third biggest party by vote, the SNP third largest by seats. Then the unthinkable happens. Despite the massed arguments of the political establishment and rising political parties, Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem, SNP, Green, Sinn Fein, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Merkel, Hollander, the United Kingdom votes to leave the European Union!

None of these things would have happened had the media chosen to censor political debate simply on the grounds of approval rating. Before the debates began UKIP were often lucky to keep their deposits!

Yet the nation that prides itself on freedom, democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of political and religious expression chooses to stand for one of its most powerful institutions censoring political debate. It doesn't matter how credible are the prospects of a Green or Libertarian candidate. They are standing, and ought to be heard. Other wise you are living in a hell of your own making, and you deserve the corrupt, entrenched political class that you have. You may just as well be North Korea or Soviet era Eastern Europe for all that your supposed freedom and democracy does for you!

It doesn't matter who we elect, they are almost entirely incompetent. They all meddle in the affars of other countries and drag us into wars we don't need, resulting in even more instability in the world.

I've traveled a lot, mostly when I was young and single. When I say traveled, I mean outside of the USA. One thing that struck and shocked me was just how disliked America is in many parts of the world. That's because of the actions of our leaders in fucking up other nations. It seems to me that we are only liked by the Israelis (because we support their oppression of the Palestinians), and the British (because we baled them out in the two world wars). Most every other nation hates us.

No matter who we elect as President, it will be more of the same. Loony President or not, it will be loony actions all over again.

I am in agreement with grants when he says "it will be looney actions all over again." But we get what we deserve by allowing such incompetents to run for the office. And FR, as you know, what you say is correct.

I have to admit that Trump's arrival gave me some hope that he might make a difference for the better, or at least give us hope. Alas, I know longer feel that way and he seems to be just a lunatic in a suit that managed to fool some of those eligible to vote next month.

FuckingRotter 10-21-2016 03:31 PM

I despair of the amount of air time our media are giving to this pair of cunts, when my own nation is at a huge political, social, and economic cross roads.

grants70 10-21-2016 03:58 PM

I am surprised our cunt & idiot show is getting so much coverage over your side of the pond FR. As if you don't already have enough to be concerned about.

bigal 10-21-2016 08:28 PM

Is the Brexit really going to happen FR? I read somewhere that there is a movement growing against it and I wonder what the reality on the ground is.

FuckingRotter 10-21-2016 11:44 PM

Our parliament and political class are such a bunch of self-serving crooked bastards, I wouldn't be surprised if Brexit didn't happen.

grants70 10-22-2016 12:25 AM

Wasn't Theresa May against a Brexit before she became prime minister? In that case, I wonder is she really wanting to go with the mood to remain in the EU? Or at least run the referendum again. It wouldn't be the first time an EU country has rerun a referendum to get the result that the Brussels Eurocunts wanted.
I Googled these examples:

Ireland on the Lisbon Treaty
Ireland on the Nice Treaty
Denmark on the Maastricht Treaty

All those were rerun, basically the Eurocunts ignoring the will of the people in the initial voting. Teresa May could do the same and hope the majority will vote to stay in the EU. I guess the issue of immigration is forcing her hand in staying with Brexit for now.

Well, the government of a tiny region of Belgium with a population of 3.5million has just kiboshed a trade deal between the EU and Canada at the last moment. There's the democracy of the EU at work for you!

If we are leaving, we'd be better off repealing the European Communities Act straight away, and just taking it to the WTO, since the EU seems incapable of making trade deals with any one! They take an ever shrinking portion of our foreign exports any way.

If the Canadian deal is anything like the TTIP, I can't say I blame them. The ISDS (Investor-State Dispute Settlement mechanism) in the TTIP gives too much power to big companies and allows them to sue governments in private courts (cases heard in secret) if a company thinks government policies harms profits. It puts big company profits before citizens rights, environmental and health policies. Companies have sued governments already in these examples:

1. The French Veolia group used ISDS to sue Egypt for raising the minimum wage in 2012.

2. TOBACCO GIANT Philip Morris is suing Ireland for attempting to introduce plain-packaging for cigarettes, designed to warned people of the dangers of smoking.

3. Poland was forced to pay €2 billion to Eureko, an insurance giant, after it decided not to privatise public insurance in August 2005.

4. In Australia, Philip Morris sued Australia over plain-packaging for cigarettes. It lost its initial court battle, but then used ISDS to sue Australia once again via a Hong Kong subsidiary. The case is ongoing, and it is thought they’re looking for billions in compensation.

5. Germany is facing a €4.7 billion euro ISDS claim brought by a Swedish energy company, for deciding to phase out nuclear energy after the Fukushima disaster.

Another thing about TTIP, it allows for us to export our low quality food and beef to Europe.
Europe is much stricter than the USA about what kinds of chemicals get into the food chain. They don’t find many — if any — artificial dyes in their food. Their cows and chickens aren’t shot up with artificial growth hormones. The EU also banned the use of an arsenic-laden drug in chickens long before the United States finally followed suit. Most European countries have banned GM crops, but TTIP allows the USA to export GM modified food products to Europe.

The more I read up on CETA (Canadian-EU trade deal) and TTIP (USA-EU trade deal) the less I like it. Both deals are geared towards our USA multi-nationals and the general population of the EU suffers. While it is great news for USA big money men, it merely transports USA suspect at best values to the EU whule the EU citizens give up many environmental, wage and food safety guarantees.
